Color Genotype: Ee Aa3, non-greyMan in the Moon's Rock Soleil is a special female whose fleece and personality both shine. Her fleece is exceptionally fine with a beautifully high-frequency crimp and an impressive staple length—traits that immediately stand out when you open her blanket. Beyond her fleece quality, Soleil is wonderfully personable. She’s the kind of alpaca who is equally valuable as a breeder and as an ambassador within our agritourism program, charming visitors with her curiosity and gentle nature.
In two of her three show appearances, judges commented that her fleece was equal in quality to the alpacas placed above her, with her smaller early frame being the deciding factor. Soleil has a compact but sturdy build, and we have full confidence that she is structurally well-prepared for a successful production career as she continues maturing.
Soleil carries outstanding genetics from both sides. Her sire, Snowmass Rock Solid, is a brown male who does not carry dilution. Regarding Soleil’s breeding, Lynn Edens remarked:
“There’s a high likelihood of a fawn cria from this pairing, and it should be a really nice one with good density, fineness, and brightness as it develops, as these traits are coming from both sides. Rock Solid is putting a—ahem—rock-solid frame on his crias also. You can pick them out in the field by eye.”
Her dam, Snowmass Bells of Piana, brings the exceptional influence of Snowmass Loro Piana, one of the most iconic studs ever produced by the Snowmass program. Named after the renowned luxury textile designer, Loro Piana was the first Snowmass male to produce a fleece finer than vicuña, achieving the program’s long-held goal of combining high curvature with extreme fineness, brightness, and staple length. His first histogram revealed remarkable numbers: 10.8 microns, SD 2.8, and 67 MC. Even more impressively, at 21 months he biopsy-tested at 115.25 follicles per sq. mm, confirming his place as one of Snowmass’s most elite contributions to the White Huacaya breed.
Soleil is currently bred to Man in the Moon's Peruvian Ganymede, the 2017 AOA National Light Male Supreme Champion. To say we are excited about this pairing is truly an understatement. With Soleil’s fineness and style, combined with Ganymede’s elite density, structure, and brightness, this cross has the potential to produce a genuinely exceptional cria.
